The Berkhamsted Walk

About the walk

The Berkhamsted Walk is a sponsored walk providing you with three options - the Fun Walk (about 6 miles), the Bluebell Walk (about 12 miles) and the Challenge Walk (about 18 miles) - so you can make your own choice. Its aim is to give you a wonderful day out in some of the most beautiful countryside close to London and, importantly, to raise money for The Children's Society. Your sponsorship will help towards the thousands of pounds raised by this event every year.

The Bluebell and Challenge Walks (12 and 18 miles respectively) start and finish from the centre of the historic market town of Berkhamsted. They quickly reach country footpaths and take routes, that vary from year to year, through the Ashridge Estate and the Chiltern Hills. Checkpoints along the routes at approximately three mile intervals provide free soft drinks and marshals check walkers' progress. From checkpoints lifts can be provided back to the finish if required.

Sign in at the Court House in Berkhamsted between 10 and 11.30am. Hand in your sponsor form and you will receive a walk number, badge and walk map with route instructions. The walk finishes back at the Court House where tea or squash and cake are provided free of charge.

The Fun Walk (6 miles) starts and finishes at Ashridge College. You can sign in any time between 11 am and 2pm. The route is fairly flat making it a pleasant walk for families and senior ramblers. There is usually one checkpoint along the route and all walkers are welcome in the Court House for free refreshments after their walk. There is free car parking at Ashridge College.

In addition to the map and instructions you will be given, the route is waymarked every few hundred yards.

Bring a picnic and suitable shoes and clothing for all weathers and enjoy yourself.
